Day 2.3: Will this day ever end
Day 2.something
Animated statue. Pissed, 8 ft, animated statue.
Well me managed to reanimate an inanimate object – A statue of Erastil
I tied to hit it. Stone and rapiers…not really a good combo. Charles has this really cool fire ray that managed to burn stone (who knew?)
Mutu must have still been dealing with wasps in his tubes because he missed (I’ll admit I was shocked.)
Thulnir hit the statue – and it hit him back with fists of stone. I think Thulnir was more pissed that stone hurt him “How dare stone injure me!” His next strike made some serious cracks and the statue was destroyed with more fire.
Since Charles has weak eyes and can’t see in the dark like a normal person, we gave him the ever-burning torch that had no smoke and produced no heat. Now he’s such a bright spot (snort). Thulnir was pouting about his broken shield when I casually mentioned that I could fix it. Happy Thulnir, mean I keep a happy shield between me and the nasties.
Moved through the west door and found more coffins. Only 4 this time and seemed to hold higher ranked village elders. Paired off to search each one. 1st two, nothing. Nothing in the 3rd one Mutu and I checked, but of course the last one held a nasty surprise. Bugs! Yuck. Cockroaches no less. Thulnir changed his density once again (I really do have to figure out how he does that) and danced away from the swarm. Charles and Mutu backed off and let the dwarf handle it. I tried to pin one to the wall with a dagger. Quick little buggers dodged out of the way. Charles pulls out his fire and blasts them to ashes. Checking the coffin we find a nifty necklace of throwing knives that produces Stone, Metal, or Wood throwing daggers infinitely. The group was cool enough to let me have it.
Next room another coffin, but this one was all by itself. Obviously someone of importance. Decided to be a bit more delicate and put some of my “skills” to use before opening this one. (Was sure this time, unlike with the statue). Found an Angel pendant [prevents critical fail in healing] for Charles and a Potency crystal [One-time use, +1 striking] that I can affix the an item for Thulnir.
At the other end of the room, we find a set of carved wood double doors depicting battles. Before we can investigate more, a floating face appears in the corridor end, a woman with her left hand missing, very distressed and begging us for help. She wears a bridal gown of Ustalav. Could this be the missing Lena? Mutu calls out her name and the ghost’s head snaps towards him.
“My ring is missing – Trapped – It burns.”
Charles tried to pull some religion mumbo jumbo to learn more about her. Managed to pull her attention and she got really pissed at him, thinking he was someone else. Ooops.
I like to know my attackers so dug into the knowledge of books I have stolen read for more information. I remember her type well. She has 2 attacks: 1) Touch attack 2) Frightening Moan that damages. An ethereal (ghost) creature, she’s tough to damage except with magical weapons or positive energy attacks. (guess that leaves me out). Oh wait… I have that ghost charge the Prof gave me/us. Well it’s worth a try. Throwing things… I’m pretty good at that. Comes from constant fights with my twin. Bomb hits the ghost and weakened her. I did my part! Time for the heavy hitters to step up.
Thulnir does just that. Smacked her good. She unfortunately hits back harder! (dammit, there go my shield repairs). Mutu called her name again and she immediately tried to hit him without success (guess he’s been watching the dwarf dance moves). Mutu then stepped up to “heal” her. I was going to complain, except it hurt her. (Positive energy – duh). Following his lead, Charles also “heals” her. I can’t really do anything (though I try) and decide my skill are better put to use behind Thulnir…and his shield. Must have distracted him because he missed too.
Then the Scream. High pitched, rusty wheel like sound. Talk about annoying, but I brushed it off. My twin makes a louder squawk when I snitched her bread at supper. Didn’t seem to bother Thulnir or Charles either. Guess they have siblings too. Mutu, however… Sound must have scrambled his metal parts because he was suddenly afraid of her. Maybe fear is useful since he used it to finally lay the spirit to rest.
I repaired the shield (again) and attached the potency crystal to Thulnir’s weapon.
Gods I’m tired. Can we go home now?
