Day 25.2: We don’t need no stinkin’ libaray card (we might)

As we moved down the hallway we see another patron studiously coping notes. In a rare mood, Kiren decides to be diplomatic and talk to her. (I’m obviously under the influence of something). A quick glimpse shows her reading Planular Rifts and Thresholds. She startles but my charming self smooths over the awkwardness and she names herself as Marissa Higgington. When I asked why she was copying everything she claimed she didn’t have a library card and you couldn’t take things out without one. Anyone who tries has major consequences, She shuttered.

(Well so much for that plan!)

We chit chat and I ask her if I am in the correct area to find the Scriptorium Ex Tenebus. Tenebus means Out of Shadows and sounded like it was a part of the [Bibliotheca Tenebus Embrius]. Claimed that was more her colleague’s research area. Asked his name and she pause a moment (almost like she had to look up the name 😉). Alan Coventon. She said to try around the corner for our book.

Moving towards the area where she specified, the shadows grew darker. I recognize them. Living Shadows – Leng Spiders, creatures at war with the Denizens of Leng. Thankfully Mutu is able to talk with them in their language of Aclo (mostly). “Charlotte” the spider stated it wanted info on the conjunction points between shadow and dreams (plain of Leng), specifically Ley Lines that would allow them to sneak behind their lines.

Playing with shadows is a bad idea – I know, I flit with those lines.

The spider must have sensed something in my reaction as it took a very intense interest in me, claiming I am a page torn from the book of the Nightbourne Maze – the same maze the Unseen Currents showed me! Casting a conjuration/Divination Spell, I catch a parchment of darkness unfurl from my chest. Oh hell no. I grab the page and move quickly into the light down the hall. Guess they didn’t appreciate that as a second smaller spider appears and they attack.

The party moves into action and puts down the Large Leng Spider. Kiren refuses to let go of the dark note and even manages to get a glimpse of the what it says

She’ll have to deal with that revelation later

The party continues to deal with the smaller spider who tries to get away. Charles decides that is a bad idea and launches a fire ray after it, while Kiren telekinetically throws books at the spider, which in hindsight was bad as they caught fire. Thankfully, the party puts down the spider and yells at the spider to stop damaging the books which IMMEDIATELY draws the attention of two librarians. (Not to self – don’t yell things like that out loud!)

Kiren explained the situation “truthfully” to the librarians yet left out certain pertinent details that *might * cause the party issues, Diana helps collaborate the pertinent events. Mutu distracts the librarian when he asks about obtaining a library card and if they only interfere if books are damaged. The answer to the first is more legalese than Kiren ever wants to deal with, while the second answer was a single word – YES.
