Gregor’s Rage and the Last Oubliette

Session Summary: 03/31/2024

Ahhhh, the FURY of a shattered kingdom! Gregor's rage at the closing of the First Gate of Slumber tore through the dreamscape like a structural failure propagating through overstressed material: not one collapse but a cascade of them, each chamber affected by the one before, the entire architecture of his mental world responding to the loss of its foundational anchor with the desperation of something that cannot accept what has happened to it.

The rage manifested as a physical force in the dreamscape: not creatures they could fight in the conventional sense but pure destructive emotion given the properties of weather. Walls cracked. Floors buckled. The sky of the dreamscape, which had been a remembered sky from some specific evening in Gregor's past, went the color of something wrong. The heroes moved through the collapsing architecture with the urgency of people who understand that standing still means being buried.

Combat was ongoing: the rage spawned manifestations that required direct confrontation, fragments of Gregor's fury given specific form and targeted intent, lashing out at the intruders who had done this to his carefully constructed world. But the heroes had learned to fight in this space, and they had learned to navigate its logic, and they used both skills simultaneously as they pressed toward the last oubliette through the debris of the dream-world's dismantling.

The final oubliette held the last sealed memory, the last piece of the puzzle that was Gregor's self-understanding, the memory he had most completely and deliberately locked away because it was the one that most directly contradicted the story he needed to believe about himself. They solved its riddle and opened it and looked at what was inside and understood, finally and completely, not only what Gregor had done but precisely why he had done it and who had given him the first tools to do it with. The knowledge was useful. It was also the specific kind of knowledge that makes the world feel SMALLER and darker for the knowing of it.

The heroes reached their eighth level of power, and the final confrontation with Gregor Pendergrast waited in the waking world above!
