The Disciple of the Yellow Sign
Session Summary: 12/28/2023
Ahhhh, the DREAD King in Yellow lends his shadow to Gregor's nightmare architecture! In the ritual chambers of the dreamscape, carved from the condensed memory of Gregor's worst purposes, the heroes encountered an undead disciple of the Yellow Sign, a servant of Hastur who had been woven into the landscape of Gregor's mind as a guardian and a teacher. This was no mere figment or trauma-creature but an entity with its own agenda and its own hunger, occupying the dreamscape's deep places the way a parasite occupies a host: not creating but feeding, not building but CONSUMING.
Three undead guardians flanked the disciple, their forms wearing the faces of people whose names appeared in Gregor's research logs as experimental subjects. The heroes recognized the faces and fought the battle with the added weight of knowing who these creatures had been before Gregor's ambitions had found use for them. It was a grim and purposeful combat.
The Yellow Sign itself pulsed from surfaces throughout this chamber, that symbol of Hastur whose mere sight carries a cost for unprotected minds. The heroes had been exposed to enough supernatural wrongness over the preceding months that their resistance was higher than it would have been at the start of this investigation, but the cost was still real and cumulative in ways they would feel in the days that followed. Charles identified the ritual structure maintaining the disciple's influence in the dreamscape and worked to unravel it while the others managed the guardians.
With the disciple destroyed, the Yellow Sign's presence in this layer of the dreamscape dimmed from active to residual, still present but no longer powered, the way a fire remains warm after the flames go out. The heroes pressed deeper. Each layer they cleared was another section of Gregor's mind they were dismantling, another piece of his carefully maintained self-justification they were stripping away. Somewhere ahead lay the CORE of it, the original wound that had made all the rest possible, and they could feel themselves getting closer with every chamber cleared!
