Into Gregor’s Dreamscape
Session Summary: 12/17/2023
Ahhhh, the final reckoning takes its STRANGEST form! With the evidence of Gregor's crimes assembled and his underground working dismantled, the heroes found that destroying the physical manifestation of his dark work was not sufficient. The rituals had been running long enough and deep enough that Gregor's own mind had become part of the architecture: a dream-realm woven from his memories and obsessions and delusions that existed in the Dreamlands itself and continued to function even with its physical anchors destroyed. The heroes would have to enter that realm and dismantle it from within.
Entering a living person's dreamscape is not a procedure with straightforward instructions. It required the combined knowledge that Geist had of dream-travel, the techniques Kiren had been quietly developing for navigating the threshold between waking and sleeping, and Diana's innate understanding of the passage between states of being. It also required Charles to pray very hard for a guidance he was not sure would come and Mutu to accept that the rules of this space would not function the way he was accustomed to and that his usual approach of applying reliable force to problems might need significant MODIFICATION.
They arrived in a landscape assembled from Gregor's memories. They fought his three undead Muses in earnest within the dreamscape, the desiccated women's three-note harmony carrying more force here than it had in the physical world, amplified by the resonance of the realm itself. Then a ghostly choir manifested from the walls, stolen voices harmonizing in support, designed to paralyze and entrance any mind not well-protected against such things.
A swarm of rats added physical chaos to the already considerable psychic noise of the battle. The heroes fought on three fronts simultaneously, holding back the choir's effect through sheer resistance while destroying the muses one by one, breaking the harmony note by note until the last singer fell and the choir's power collapsed without its anchoring chord. Gregor's dreamscape groaned in the way that a structure groans when foundational elements are removed: still standing, but no longer CERTAIN it will remain so for long!
