4 – Back in town

We watched as a wraith of some kind followed and fed off of a group of women. We could clearly see the apparition, while the women were blissfully ignorant of the entity. Much to the surprise of the ladies, we attacked the incorporeal thing and dispersed its body. After doing so, we noticed that a group of ruffians were accosting a young woman and her friend.

The ruffians killed one woman and fled, after which her heart burst forth from her chest in a grotesque display complete with spider legs and teeth. After dispatching the heart, we came to find out from the young girl’s friend that she had been using cosmetics with black sand.

Eventually, we made our way into the sewers to find a secret entrance to the Penderghast mansion and encountered horrors in their basement. Undead sirens, a shrine to Hastuer (a god that reveres madness and chaos), and a powerful devotee to Hastuer. We took down the creature and a number of other haunts and undead in the basement before locating a room with a high-level devotee to the cult that offerred to answer questions for us. Not being so foolish as to trust the thing, we attempt to banish it. It was strong, but we prevailed.

This house has a sickness that has taken root in it. Maybe not a sickness… more like an intentional abandonment of morality and an infection of madness. The basement alone was full of strange creatures, phantasms, and chaotically fractured minds of powerful foes.

We found an entrance to the common areas of the basement where servants frequent. Things are less dark here, but not safe. We located an armory with some suped-up automatons that seem more powerful than the two we took our earlier.

After dismantling the automatons, we decided enough was enough for today and left. In the tunnels, we fought with some garbage oozes and fed them to the trash monster as we promised him food.

Back in town, we inform our respective churches that the Pendergrast manor is host to some twisted denizens and madness inducing secrets. With the power and support of the churches, we obtain a search warrant.
