8 – Mansion on a lake
We were sent to the House of Blustein and immediately we were beset by a twisted merecreature. Distrustful and hopeless, she decided to believe in me that I would eradicate the blight spewing forth from the chimneys – and I will.
Noticing a balcony, we avoided the sure perils of the path up the hill to the house . I climbed up and hoisted the rest of the crew. Once inside, an obsidian statue of a scorpion came to life and attacked us, but luck was on our side, nay – the Everflame. Sarenrae’s good graces shined on us in this moment and we were relatively unharmed.
Kiren, in her ever-inquisitive nature, proceeded casually throughout the manor and encountered a trap that almost turned her into a mouse. Fortunately, some quick thinking by Diana and some fast hands by Kiren herself, saved her corporeal body.
We encountered the master of the manor, a deranged man named Albrecht. He injected himself with the black sands combined with some kind of alchemic substance and his body transformed, twisted. We laid him to rest and Diana had his soul ferried to the afterlife.
On our way up to the attic, Kiren discovered a secret compartment and I busted down the wall to expose a poor soul, stuck between her old life and undeath. Charles laid her to rest, Diana saved her soul, and I burned her broken form to ashes. The body lit as if it were but tinder, but her strikes were powerful during the fight. Kiren may turn into a ghoul. We’ll see…
Stuff happened. Deus Ex Machina burned the recent pages from my diary. They shall remain lost to time.
Jenny
We decided to leave the mansion without provoking the statues, but Jenny was outside. She was perched on the roof. Kiren was Kiren … and she attacked Jenny. I don’t disagree, but it was a bit tactless in the moment – and utter stroke of genius after consideration. Jenny retaliated to Kiren, so our third trial came and went with a whimper. I’m not sure if this was Jenny’s plan all along because she left us to fight a very powerful spellcaster, Elirys Frostthorn, in the snow.
The witch’s magics left the terrain twisted and dangerous and her physical attacks hit vitals more often than not. Charles’s divine magic was at too great a distance to help those engaged up close, but we managed to defeat the witch anyway. Even after her death, powerful and amorphous undead in the area rose up to challenge us.
The witch demanded the necromancer’s reliquary, but we don’t surrender our MacGuffins to evil ones quite as easily as she had hoped.
