Day 29
Professor Wriedt joined the group after the party checked on Voleta. She interrupted Dr. Ritalsin as he worked to find and hand a leather belt to Mutu. She muttered something about the Whispering Lady and how the belt may or already did help in winning the day. She always seemed absent minded. Professor Wriedt instead provided a different belt to Mutu. This belt was not the standard leather belt, more like a shiny gaudy tutu. Professor Wriedt then went on to a tangent about Mutu and a dance troupe he is destined to form or already did. As she talked about the troop, she handed Kiren some thulus which the professor believed may or may not help with phantasms. Ritalsin sighed at the conversation of the professor. Charles guessed that this wasn’t the first time he had to deal with her.
The party decided to return to the Toymakers shop to check on the status of Andre as the doctor had not received a reply yet from the town guard. Upon their arrival, they witnessed two guard standing watch outside the building. Mutu, with his new belt, attempted to distract the guards. Kiren explained that they are employed with the university and that they were there to investigate further. The guards granted them entry, along with the one inside the first floor. The two in the basement seemed less willing to allow the party passage. The guards do not feel compelled by Kiren’s explanation. Charles had had enough and lashed out at the guards and explained, “How else could we have gotten down here and past the other three guards?”. Charles then excused the guards from the room and as soon as they were outside Diana shuts the door on them.
After careful examination, the party notes that there are runes on the ground which are being charged by the motes and the iron bars. Mutu pulled the door to the jail open. As he did, the candles extinguished and Andre was freed. A wave of cold, malevolent energy washed over the party. Ghostly spiders weaved around Andre. As Mutu and Charles stepped inside the jail to pull Andre out, the spiders coalesced into two giant spiders. While one of the two spiders phased out, Mutu and Charles are able to dispatch the first one. In the middle of the battle, one of the guards managed to push their way back inside. Diana rushed them back out. The second spider phased back in and stepped forward towards the party. The Eidolon is able to obliterate the second phase spider. As it did so, a sudden gust of wind or a shape opened the door and rushed down the hall. Mutu, Charles, and Kiren gave chase while Diana tended to Andre.
As the party emerged from the building, a shadow creature was seen outside. The three members of the party engaged in combat with this Dreamwalker. While Mutu and Charles engaged with the creature, Kiren’s thulu aided weapon was able to strike down the fog creature. The guards outside tried to press the party, but Mutu again attempted to distract them with his dancing. The party took the affected Andre back to the doctor at the university.
